The General Mayor of Chisinau, Dorin Chirtoaca, together with the Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova, Dirk Schuebel, visited on the 06 March 2012 the construction site in the Railway Station area, where rehabilitation and extension works of the rainwater drainage network were launched at the end of February under the EU funded project “The pluvial sewerage. Promoting and implementing innovative action to climate change”.

The action aims at reducing the effects of heavy rains and preventing floods by evacuating the rainwater from the Railway Station Square through Aleea Garii str. and by collecting rainwater on Decebal av., Fantanilor str. and Iu. Gagarin av.

The construction works will be executed by the company IM “Badprim” SRL during a period of 3 months (February - May 2012) and have a total cost of 490.344,06 Euro.

Please note that “The pluvial sewerage. Promoting and implementing innovative action to climate change” project is funded by the European Union within the “Non-state actors and local authorities in development” Programme and implemented by the Chisinau City Hall in partnership with Odessa City Council during 30 months (December 2009 - June 2012), having a total budget of 900.000 Euro out of which 737.147 Euro are due to the Chisinau City Hall.

Thus, under the Odessa component, the project foresees prevention of flooding in the Peresyp District of Odessa caused by clogging and soiling of main rainwater drain trenches and collectors. Normal operation of the Shchelakovskaya drain trench will provide this area with outflow of storm water and prevent flooding of the district with 80 thousand residents as well as significantly increase the sanitary and environmental situation.
